About the Ranch

Rustic Cabins & Wagons

Experience the simple comforts of mountain living in our cozy, rustic cabins. Thoughtfully appointed with everything you need for a relaxing stay, each unit offers a welcoming place to return after a day spent exploring trails, soaking in the hot springs, or simply taking in the fresh mountain air.

Step back in time with a stay in one of our beautifully restored traditional sheep wagons—a unique piece of Colorado’s ranching heritage. Once home to sheepherders who spent months tending flocks in the high country, these charming wagons have been uniquely adapted to provide a cozy and memorable mountain getaway.

  • The Lodge

Avalanche Ranch’s common recreation building. The Lodge sits uphill from the office (with a bronze bear out front) and is centrally located. Extra supplies for your cabin are in the cupboard outside the North entrance. The lodge offers a cozy sitting area containing games, books, and wi-fi.

  • The Barnyard

Avalanche Ranch sits on 40 acres, most of which is agricultural grazing ground. The barnyard is located below the Red House and is home to a variety of livestock. Depending on the time of year, you may see chickens, pigs, llamas, horses, or cows. Farm fresh eggs and frozen meat from the Ranch are available in the Gift Shop.

  • The Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is located next to the office in the Red House. Curated with a delightful variety of locally made goods, clothing, home decor, snacks, and everything in between. A great place to find gifts, memorabilia, and items you can’t live without. The shop is open daily from 9-5.

Hot Springs

Designed around the natural landscape and rock formations of our dramatic Crystal River Valley, Avalanche Ranch features 3 Colorado natural hot springs pools in a tiered layout. Cascading from one to the next, each of the beautiful hot springs is situated at a level that provides limited visibility from one to the next. The largest pool is fed by a 3-foot waterfall, forming a warm screen of water in front of a rock grotto.
